Accomodation

Which parts of the city are best for accomodation?

Heidelber is not a huge city. You will be able to reach almost anything either by foot in 20-30 min, by bike in max. 15 min or by bus in 10-30 min.Still, we recommend finding accomodation in one of the following areas to have a optimal starting point to explore Heidelberg.

  1. Altstadt (Old City) City center with many stores, gastronomy and the main touristic attractions. It is a busy area, you might hear the church bells during the day and young people walking home from the bar area during the night.
  2. Bergheim This area lies right between main station and old city - it is at the prime location to explore any area in Heidelberg. This is also where we have been living the past two years!
  3. Weststadt/Südstadt (Western and southern area) This city area has many buildings in the style of Art Nouveau and many families live here. You will find many nice Cafés and Restaurants, to enjoy.
  4. Neuenheim (north of the Neckar river) Many university professors and other academic staff live here. This area feels more like a town and is the perfect starting point for a walk up the philosopher's path. There you will have a great view from the castle and old city.
  5. Bahnstadt Newest development area in Heidelberg. Originally the freight depot it is now one of the biggest passive house estates in the world! We rarely go there but it seems that many new restaurants have been opended during the past years. This is especially interesting to see for anyone interested in architecture. It is probably the area closest to the wedding venue and has many new hotels to offer.

How will I find accomodation?

Unfortunately we do not have much experience with the hotels in Heidelberg. We recommend planning your trip as you are used to for any other vacation.

  1. Hotels We recommend using Booking.com or Google maps.
  2. Appartments Use Airbnb and other websites.
  3. Campervan Parking: There is a great parking spot right at the Neckar river side. It is free, but you might not find a free spot!
  4. Air matresses: We have friends living in Heidelberg that might be able to accomodate you. Let us know if you are interested!

Discover Heidelberg

Heidelberg is a wonderful city to explore during a wedding weekend. We recommend walking into old town and on the surrounding hillsides, if you only have a few hours in town.

You will find a curated list of cafés, restaurants and touristic sights here!
